About This Project
To prepare a feasibility study and to produce several design options for enhancing the existing building and its functionality, together with a proposed scheme and final proposal for submission to the Client. Latterly, McAndrew Martin also prepared all Construction Drawings, Specification and Schedule of Works together with all necessary Approvals for inclusion in the Pre-Tender package.
The existing area was dark and gloomy with enclosed wards and a tired décor. It was our task to provide a non-institutional environment with a bright and uplifting ambience, combined with an enhanced and improved circulation, 'walk-through' experience. Our experienced and innovative Designers and Architects, working closely with the Client, produced several design options that included the use of imaginative colour schemes, materials and fabrics to provide a positive and spacious interior.
As part of the overall proposal, external glazing was replaced and a continuous atrium running the entire length of the building was introduced. Internal walls and partitions were replaced and soft curves were incorporated into the internal walls and screens to create a non-compartmentalisation effect.
Other interior improvements included the provision of multi-functional daycare facilities, including a café–lounge, library, information centre and various treatment rooms with the emphasis being on a 'meet-and-mingle' concept. External landscaping was re-designed to present a pleasant and tranquil surrounding and the addition of an arts and crafts area.
The Client chose the final Design Scheme which successfully met the requirement for enhanced daylight factoring and improvement to the modular function of the building. The proposal was developed into a live project and construction work began. McAndrew Martin were appointed to act as Project Manager and CDMC Project Co-ordinator. Work began in July 2011 and the new complex was officially opened in October 2012. An outstanding project and service all round.
