Bill McAndrew BSc FRICS

Bill began his career as a Trainee Surveyor with the Department of the Environment's Property Services Agency, spending the early stages of his career working in the Westminster area of Central London where he managed Crown properties including Horseguards Parade, St James’ Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

After completing a BSc in Surveying in 1986, Bill gained Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1987 followed by Fellowship status in 1992.

Bill was instrumental in establishing the Practice in 1989 and has seen it develop into one of the largest independent Surveying/Architectural Practices in the Portsmouth area.

Ian Lee BSc FRICS

Ian originally joined McAndrew Martin in 1996 and returned to the Practice in 2010 following a seven year period spent working with another local, well known Surveying Practice.

Ian has a wide range of surveying experience particularly in Valuation and Residential Survey work. Since returning, he has been able to bring many new ideas to the Practice which has enabled it to go from strength to strength.

Ian has twice held the position of Chairman of the Portsmouth Property Association and also regularly writes for the Expert Eye column of the Weekly Property Guide in the Portsmouth News.

Lee Sergeant BSc (Hons) MRICS

Lee has been with McAndrew Martin since leaving school in 1999. In this time, Lee has accomplished his BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying at the University of Brighton along with gaining his RICS status. In 2011 Lee was Highly Commended at the News Business Awards in the Young Achiever of the Year category.

Lee predominately works within the commercial sector, preparing Designs, Specifications and Project Management for the Ministry of Defence. However, with over 12 years experience, Lee also works on Residential Developments, Commercial Schemes and Engineering Projects.

Noor Awan EUR ING. BSc. ACGI. CEng. MICE. RMaPS.

Noor joined McAndrew Martin in Janurary 2014 as a highly-qualified Structural Engineer having previously worked for another well known company. He brings a wealth of experience to the McAndrew Martin team.

A chartered civil engineer with an enviable track record of engineering and management achievement in the construction industry. He has broad experience in structural design, as ISO 9001 Quality Manager and a CDM Coordinator. He has expertise in design of blast resistant structures and glazing. Noor set up and successfully ran Brunel Design Group, a multi-discipline design consultancy for 20 years before joining McAndrew Martin.

Bruce Scott BSc Hons

Bruce is an Associate Director at McAndrew Martin. He joined the business in March 2007 as a Trainee Building Surveyor, after previous employment with an estate agency and four years of experience in a Land Surveying practice. His previous experience has been invaluable to the Practice and has enabled us to continue to grow and further develop our existing Client base.

Bruce has a Degree in Building Surveying at Kingston University and is keen to continue his development in pursuance of RICS status.

In his spare time Bruce is a keen athlete who enjoys cross-country running as well as playing rugby, cricket and golf.

Bruce is also an active member of the Portsmouth Property Association.

James Bengree BA (Hons) ACIAT MSc

James joined McAndrew Martin in November 2008 after achieving a BA (Hons) Degree in Architectural Technology. Whilst in the process of becoming a Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), he has also completed his Masters Degree in Historic Building Conservation at Portsmouth University with a view to achieving Chartered status with the RICS.

In his spare time James is a keen cyclist having recently cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money for Cancer Research.

Barry A. Lee MCIOB MBeng

Barry commenced his training as an Electrical Apprentice with a local electrical contractor. After completing his Electrical Apprenticeship Barry progressed to Senior Project Manager with a number of companies providing Senior Project Management for scheme including the Jubilee Line Extension and the Historic Refurbishment of Brighton Railway Station.

Barry became Director of a building consultancy company, providing advice on all aspects of Building Design, Project Management and Project Procurement.

He joined McAndrew Martin in 2006 bringing with him a wealth of experience which has been invaluable to the continued success and growth of the Practice.

Salim M. Rahman RIBA BA (Hons), Dipl Arch, MA Architect

Salim completed his Diploma in Architecture in 1999 and with the ARB as a qualified Architect and was elected as a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 2005.

Working with the Warner Leisure Hotels, Salim undertook design and project work on Thoresby Hall, a Grade I Listed Building, a new hotel and auditorium. Salim has also worked on similar major projects, including the Pompey Centre.

As a Senior Architect with the Brunel Design Group, Salim worked within the public sector, including numerous projects for the Ministry of Defence over the past 11 years.
Salim joined McAndrew Martin Ltd in 2014 as Senior Architect to form an essential role within our multidisciplinary project team.

Ken Veness BSc FRICS

Ken has more than 40 years of experience as a surveyor/valuer in the Hampshire and West Sussex area. He has worked continuously in the profession since 1968. He founded his own company, Veness Chartered Surveyors, in 1973. Cosham-based Veness Chartered Surveyors built up an extensive client base and forged an outstanding reputation in expert witness reports, leasehold enfranchisement and residential and land surveys of all kinds for private, public and commercial clients.

Ken joined McAndrew Martin as a consultant in September 2014 when Veness Chartered Surveyors became part of McAndrew Martin. He brings a great depth of expertise, skill and experience to McAndrew Martin as well as many new ideas and business initiatives, including news services to meet increasing demand for boundary work.

Alf Wimshurst BSc FRICS

Alf has a wide range of expertise, with nearly 40 years of experience in the industry. He graduated from Portsmouth University with a BSc in Urban Land Administration in 1975 before rising to Partner at Parkinsons Estate Agents and Surveyors. Alf later ran his own firm, Mayfair Surveyors and Valuers, for a decade before joining Veness Chartered Surveyors.

Alf comes to McAndrew Martin under the Veness Chartered Surveyors banner with consultant Ken Veness and secretaries Tina Davies and Helen Taylor. He can provide expert support and professional advice in a comprehensive range of areas, including building surveys, homebuyer reports, valuations, party wall notices and awards, and expert witness work.

Sam Rix

Director of Operations Sam joined McAndrew Martin in the Spring of 2016 to help move the business up to the next level. University of Portsmouth graduate Sam has held a series of high-calibre positions, most recently as a HR change analyst at the Direct Line Group.

Sam is determined to build on our outstanding reputation as one of the most prestigious and high profile multi-disciplinary property companies on the south coast. With an overview of the business, he is committed to excellence and delivering even greater professional advice and personal service for our many varied clients.

Horace McAndrew

Horace started his initial career as an Electrical Technician with the SEB and he is qualified for Design and Testing of Services to IET Regulations 17th Edition.

In addition, the Practice has gained through Horace's accreditation in BAFE SP203 for the Design of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems to BS KM 573856.

Horace has been instrumental in developing and introducing energy saving measures for Clients, in particular remote internet-based power consumption monitoring including new LED efficient lighting schemes.

Steve Funnell Dip DEA Dip NDEA

Steve started at Mann & Co in October 1988, a local estate agency now part of Countrywide group – and so began his career in property. Steve worked his way up through the company, eventually progressing to a regional manager position. In 2002, he made the difficult but exciting decision to leave the company and start up his own estate agency, Funnell & Co.

Whilst running his own firm, Steve insisted on furthering his education and he completed both the Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) and Commercial Energy Assessor (NDEA) qualifications between 2007 and 2008.

In February 2015 Steve decided to enrol on the SAVA Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation to add another invaluable string to his bow. But Steve won’t stop after gaining the diploma. Once he has joined the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at Associate level, his next goal is to gain Chartered status and become a full member of RICS (MRICS).

Sue McAndrew

Sue has been involved in the Practice since its inception in 1989, and took over the role of Practice Manager from the early part of 2007.

Previously, Sue worked as Personal Assistant to the Managing Director of a subsidiary of Essilor, within the contact lens industry, and prior to that she worked at GEC. Both roles encompassed a wide diversity of responsibility over a 15 year period.
